Dealing with change

Everyone says that change is the only constant in life. Small changes and big changes. I noticed that several big changes in a short period of time, make me restless and I may even experience stress, even if it is a positive experience.

Do you recognize this? Now I am going through another period with lots of big changes in a short time. I almost finished my website, completed a number of trainings and certifications and also started in a very nice new job. Yeah and ugh at the same time! In Surinam one would say ‘I mi gado, omg!’

For the most part I do it all myself, of course. I follow the training courses myself; I want to get my quality mark of (career) coaching, finish my website and the application that has now become successful, resulting in a nice job. The real trick is dosing, it is always a temporary tightrope effect and coincidentally this is also a period of peak production and results. It is making it all come together. It resonates nicely with the season of summer when everything is in full bloom and everything is ready to be harvested – what I reap are the results of what I sowed in previous periods. It’s like surfing on a tidal wave, in a flow, but also trying to keep the balance on my surfboard.

We humans like to remain creatures of habit even if a habit is not good for us. So, changes always create some tension and structural changes, such as eating healthier food and doing more sports in a busy period, remains my focus. Just like keeping the balance between activity and relaxation. There goes my inner critic again. There you are again to set the bar high and to want to do everything right. The trick is to take small steps and make small changes in our life pattern and persevere so it becomes a way of life. If it doesn’t work out sometimes, don’t try to burn yourself down and give up completely. Every day offers a new opportunity. Some days are better than others. Often I laugh in myself and I think: here we go again…

Madam impatience is my middle name. I want everything done yesterday. Luckily now that I am a bit older, I can put things into perspective a bit more and see that introducing new things requires perseverance, patience, being gentle with yourself and involving other people into the process.

It can be exciting to start new things in life and the website is an example of this. Making oneself visible. I will blog more often and write about things that are taken from life. That is another change. Changes in life often tell you that you can reinvent yourself. In case of an unpleasant change it can be more of a lesson telling us that we do not control everything or, for example, about how we deal with grief. With nice changes, reinventing yourself can mean discovering more of your talents, meeting new people or just experiencing and seeing life differently.

Perhaps you are initiating changes consciously or unconsciously because you want to change things in your life and make different choices.

In this case the change is: blogging, showing myself, which is fun, exciting and scary at the same time. I’m also grateful that I get to do all this. See you next time!
